Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing(PAUT) Level 2 Non-Blended Course

Is it for me?

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) represents an advanced approach to non-destructive testing, utilizing ultrasonic probes with the capability to pulse elements individually at varied time intervals. Contrasted with traditional ultrasonics, PAUT offers enhanced probability of detection, increased speed, heightened reliability, and the provision of 2D or 3D imaging alongside a permanent inspection record generated through recorded data.

This program caters to experienced Level 2 certified ultrasonic technicians seeking to augment their expertise and obtain certification in phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT).

For those facing time constraints, we offer a blended learning alternative, allowing you to study theory and concepts at your convenience before participating in classroom sessions for hands-on practical experience.

What will I learn?

This training program covers the fundamental principles of phased array inspection, including an in-depth understanding of phased array probes, inspection sensitivity principles, and the operation of phased array instruments. Participants will gain proficiency in scanning techniques using phased array probes, as well as calibration procedures, and system checks. Additionally, the course will delve into software utilization for both data collection and analysis, focusing on principles of data analysis and familiarity with relevant software tools for defect detection and sizing. Students will also learn procedures for verifying flaw existence and position, as well as reporting methodologies.

Equipment commonly utilized during the course includes Olympus Omniscan equipment. For courses requiring specific equipment, please contact us to confirm the apparatus used for the event.

The training adheres to the standards outlined in BS EN ISO 9712 and culminates with a certification examination.

What will I leave with?

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Explain the theoretical background of phased array applications
  • Correctly select probe/wedge to examine welded butt joints
  • Calibrate and set up the phased array ultrasonic equipment
  • Locate and evaluate flaws in the weld body, HAZ, and parent metal lamination
  • Analyse scan data for location and size of defects in typical welded butt joints
  • Accurately report weld condition
  • Differentiate defects from geometric features
  • Compile a written instruction
  • Meet the PCN syllabus requirements

What else should I know?

The course duration is 15 days including exam: 10 days phased array theory and data acquisition practical, 3 days analysis practical, 2 days exam.

Candidates with previous training in Phased Array UT may be eligible for a reduction of the total training hours required for PCN certification. Please contact Customer Services for further information. You are to provide evidence of the training received: a certificate of attendance and a copy of the training syllabus BOTH authenticated by a senior responsible person in the candidates employing organization or a major client. This shall be passed to the relevant TES Training Centre for approval at least two weeks before the scheduled course start date.

This course leads to an internationally recognized PCN certification, both fully compliant with BS EN ISO 9712 certification schemes.

The training adheres to the standards outlined in BS EN ISO 9712 and concludes with a certification examination, ensuring that participants are well-equipped.

        Please note:

All candidates attending an examination (initial, retest, or renewal) must provide photo ID (e.g. driving licence , passport, PCN ID card) on the day of sitting the examination. Failure to do so will result in the candidate being turned away.

        ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
PCN candidates must be qualified to a minimum of BS EN ISO 9712 Level 2 Ultrasonic Testing.
