What will I learn?
Pipelines serve as a cost-effective hydrocarbons transportation system. At the conclusion of
their intended life-cycle technical and/or commercial dictates pipelines may be subject to
the so-called ‘de-commissioning and abandonment’ programme.
In order to undertake this work, a multitude of considerations are made with respect to
legislative, regulatory requirements, the decommissioning programme, its approval and its
execution, environmental considerations and requirements, contractor requirements and so
on.
This course will address and exam some of these many protocols together with case studies
of the de-commissioning programme for both onshore and subsea pipelines

This course will provide delegates with an awareness and insight into all the requirements
for undertaking a pipeline de-commissioning and abandonment programme which include
but not limited to:

• Principal legislative and regulatory requirements – permitting-authorisations consultations-environmental considerations-marine protection
• Planning and step-by-step guide of the de-commissioning programme:
o Execution of the de-commissioning works – contractor pre-qualifications surveying pipeline cleaning- removal of manifolds, trees,
o Testing for NORMs
o Pipeline removal
• For/against – leaving / removal of infrastructure on seabed / on land
• Surveying and monitoring requirements
• Reporting
